Gibberdian Routines

We have clear routines that allow our school day to run smoothly, keep us safe and remove disruptions from our lessons. As a result, we all feel safe, bullying is eliminated and our learning is not interrupted.

Line Ups

These are a clear indication that play time is over and learning time is about to start. They calm pupils and get them ready for learning so when pupils step into the classroom learning time is not lost. They also help move pupils around the school efficiently and calmly so everyone feels safe.

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones and any personal smart devices are collected at the start of the school day and returned to pupils at the end of the school day. This prevents online bullying during school hours, ensuring pupils feel safe, encourages pupils to socialise and removes distractions in lessons.

Hand Up

We use the ‘hand up’ method to gather attention, where an adult will raise a hand to signal they need everyone’s attention. All, pupils and staff, will stop and raise their hand to signal they are ready to listen. This method is an effeective and efficient way to gather everyone’s attention in a calm manner which is particularly liked by our pupils who are sensitive to noise.

Keep Left

Along the corridors and the staircases, we walk on the left to allow for all to move safely and efficiently inside the building.

Dining

Year groups purchase food at allocated times to avoid overcrowding and to ensure queues are orderly.

Toilets

Different toilets are allocated to different year groups to overcome overcrowding in different areas of the school. This also allows our younger pupils to feel more confident when using the facilities.

We have one set of unisex toilets; all other toilets are gender labelled.

Pupils are not permitted to use toilets during lessons unless they have a medical card. This is to ensure that lessons are not disrupted and to ensure the safety of pupils as toilets are not monitored during lessons.
