Assemblies celebrate students' qualities

Assemblies celebrate students' qualities

Posted: 16th December 2019

Good behaviour, attendance and integrity are among the qualities being celebrated at our new secondary school.

Celebration assemblies will be held every half-term at Sir Frederick Gibberd College to give positive reinforcement.

The first assembly saw a total of 163 awards handed out in six different categories.

Rhianna Bolt received four awards, celebrating her good attendance, lack of detentions and her character – an award just six students in the year will receive. She was also named student of the week in the weekly awards.

She said: “I was a bit shocked to receive so many awards. I did not expect to get them all, but I was really happy. My mum was very proud of me, too.”

Headteacher Dee Conlon said: “Rather than focusing on what students may do wrong, we are focusing on good conduct, behaviour, habits and being an overall good person, in or outside of school. We are celebrating academic success and personal growth.

“We want to help to develop well-rounded individuals. We want them to be academically successful, but also to be good citizens who contribute to society with good habits.

“Rhianna is all of those things, plus some more. She is the first person to check whether someone is ok; she looks out for people and is a very caring person.”
