Year 10&11 Historians visited the Houses of Parliament. We had a great time and learnt a lot. For example, the New Dawn commemorates women’s suffrage. It's colours change with the tide of the Thames. pic.twitter.com/ZX7pq4H7KR

School council partners conservation charity

Posted: 18th May 2022

School councillors are working with a conservation charity to make their community more environmentally friendly.

Councillors in each year group are working on their own projects, having presented their ideas to their headteacher to seek approval for the action plans.

In Year 7, students are building a miniature nature reserve to encourage and protect wildlife.

Year 8 students are organising litter picking enrichment each week to keep the school grounds tidy.

In Year 9, students are looking at food provenance and waste by planning herbs and vegetables while liaising with canteen staff and food preparation and nutrition teachers.

Amy Croucher, art, design and technology teacher, said: “Students have four weeks to implement their projects around the school and then they have to present their findings to an Action for Conservation representative.

“Our school councillors are passionate about implementing their projects and promoting a more sustainable future.

“I’m proud of the enthusiasm and commitment they have demonstrated so far and am intrigued to see the outcomes.
