New Teacher on Path to Leadership

New Teacher on Path to Leadership

Posted: 23rd November 2022

A new teacher showing potential as a future school leader has been accepted onto a prestigious national programme.

George Daly has secured a place on the Leadership Legacy Project by SSAT, the Schools, Students and Teachers network.

He will join future education leaders from across the country selected as SSAT Leadership Fellows in their first two to five years of teaching.

The PE lead was put forward by headteacher Dee Conlon for showing potential of becoming a future school leader.

She said: “Mr Daly is an inspirational teacher and has demonstrated excellent leadership qualities since he started teaching at Sir Frederick Gibberd College. He is a true team player, always going above and beyond.

“In true BMAT style, he believes in and lives one of our core values, Servant Leadership. All BMAT schools offer opportunities for staff to grow and develop as we are keen to grow the next generation of teachers and school leaders.”

Mr Daly, who joined the programme in October, said: “Being a sportsman myself, I understand the importance of positive leadership and the impact it can have on a group’s performance, whether that is playing sport or in the workplace. I think this is reflected in the way I present myself at work as I try to build a positive culture within school and my department that we work hard for each other to get the best possible results out of us all.

“My long-term ambition is to build a strong physical education and extra-curricular programme at Sir Frederick Gibberd that caters to all students’ sporting dreams and ambitions and encourages lifelong participation for all.

“I also aspire to one day taking on a wider role within the school, helping to manage and lead as member of senior leadership.

“I am always grateful for the opportunities Sir Frederick Gibberd has given me. Opportunities such as this will support my career progression and, most importantly, help me to contribute to the development of Sir Frederick Gibberd as we grow as a new school.

“Having been here since the opening, I feel passionate about the success of the school and its students.”

SSAT brings together school leaders, teachers and students through membership networks, professional development programmes and school improvement initiatives, as well as practical events and resources.
