Parliament Trip for Politics Students
Posted: 6th December 2022The home of government and politics was the ideal place for sixth formers to further their studies.
Year 13 A-level government and politics students visited the Houses of Parliament.
As guests of the town’s MP, Robert Halfon, the group had a tour of the building before entering the House of Commons and House of Lords, sitting in the backbenches and seeing the Monarch’s throne.
They were told about the history of the building and the symbolism of the processes which take place there.
Mr Halfon invited the group to visit him in is parliamentary office to tell him more about their course, to give their views on social media and the impact on their mental health.
He also told them about his path to politics as a career.
Matthew Yerosimou, head of Year 12 and 13, said: “The halls of Parliament were filled with incredible architecture and medieval artwork. Every turn felt like we had gone back in time.
“The experience hugely complemented the studies of the students from what they have already learnt in their government and politics lessons.
“It was a fantastic experience for the students to sit in the office of a sitting cabinet MP and to ask him questions. Robert Halfon did not need to give up his time for us, so we are very appreciative of that.”
