A-level results day has marked an important milestone for students at Sir Frederick Gibberd College (SFG), as they received the grades they have worked towards throughout their sixth form studies.

The cohort is now preparing to take the next steps in their individual journeys, with students progressing to a diverse range of destinations including universities, degree apprenticeships, employment and specialist pathways.

For some students, the journey to their next destination has been far from straightforward. Alongside their academic achievements, they have overcome significant personal, educational and financial barriers, demonstrating resilience, determination and ambition throughout their time at SFG.

Among this year’s destinations and achievements are:

• Salisa — A* in Biology, A in Chemistry and A in Maths — achieved her results and will now study Pharmacy at University College London.
   
• Aria — achieved As and Bs across English, History, Psychology and Government and Politics — received her results and will now study Law.
   
• Sophie — achieved As and Bs across English, History, Psychology and Government and Politics — received her results and will now study Law.
   
• Luka — A in English Literature, alongside Bs in History and Government and Politics — achieved her results and will now study Politics at Durham University.
   
• Connor — achieved his results and will now join PwC and Queen Mary University to complete a degree apprenticeship.

Other students are progressing to a wide range of destinations, including History at the University of Nottingham and Bournemouth University, Biology at the University of Liverpool, Psychology at Canterbury and Anglia Ruskin University, Actuarial Science at the University of East Anglia, Engineering with Pilot Studies at the University of Hertfordshire, Computer Science at Brunel University and Real Estate at London Metropolitan University.

Alongside traditional university routes, several students have secured degree apprenticeships, including opportunities with Queen Mary University, while others are progressing into careers in areas including Healthcare and Finance. For some students, clearing has provided an important second opportunity to secure a positive destination, demonstrating that the route to success is not always linear.

Jo Doyle, Headteacher at Sir Frederick Gibberd College, said: “We are incredibly proud of this year's students. What makes these achievements particularly special is the determination and resilience that many of our young people have demonstrated throughout their time at SFG.

“For some, the journey has involved significant adversity. There have been challenges that could easily have changed the direction of their lives, but they have continued to work hard, seek support and believe in their future.

“University offers are wonderful achievements, but what we are most proud of is the young people they have become. They have shown that your starting point does not have to determine your destination.

“Whether they are heading to UCL, Durham, Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham, Exeter, an apprenticeship or into employment, they should be incredibly proud of themselves. They have earned this opportunity. This is a proud day for me and the team at SFG.”

Jade Weatherley, Assistant Headteacher at Sir Frederick Gibberd College, said: “I would like to express my sincere pride in our Year 13 cohort in all that they have achieved despite the challenges we have faced at SFG. They have demonstrated remarkable resilience, maturity and determination.

“Most importantly, I am incredibly proud of the adults they have become. Their growth, character and development over the course of their time with us have been truly significant, and it has been a privilege to see them develop into the young adults they are today.

“As they now move forward into the next chapter of their lives, I hope they do so with confidence and pride in everything they have accomplished. Although they are leaving us, they will always remain an important part of our community, and they should know that we will always be here to support them. I wish every member of our Year 13 cohort every success, happiness and fulfilment for the future.”

The students’ destinations reflect the breadth of opportunities available to young people at SFG, with students progressing towards university courses, degree apprenticeships and careers across areas including medicine-related and biological sciences, law, politics, history, engineering, psychology, business and computer science.

The results demonstrate the importance of providing students with the knowledge, support and opportunities to determine their own next steps. Having overcome challenges and demonstrated resilience throughout their time at SFG, this year’s students can now look ahead to the next chapter with confidence and pride in what they have achieved.
