Pupils Become Record Breaking Mathematicians
Posted: 24th June 2025A select group of high attaining pupils at Sir Frederick Gibberd College were chosen to take part in the ‘UKMT National Mathematics Competition’.
Charlie and Dominik had previously gained in the top five percent nationally for Maths, and were chosen to take part in the follow-up ‘Junior Kangaroo Competition 2025’.
Both pupils achieved a Bronze Award, a first for SFG and a phenomenal achievement which places them among the top mathematicians for their age in the country.
When asked for their thoughts on the competition, Dominik replied: "I enjoyed the questions as they were challenging."
Charlie added: "I find maths very interesting and fun. I also like solving various mathematical problems."
Ms Jose, Teacher of Class 8G1 told of the determination both students showed in their class work: "The pupils work very hard in Maths and show real grit when faced with difficult questions - they don't quit.
"We are all very excited to see what our young mathematicians will go on to achieve next."
